City of Colours 2016, Birmingham UK (Highlights)

The summer street art season of 2016 well and truly kicked off this weekend with the vibrant festival that is Birmingham’s City of Colours exploding onto the streets of Digbeth in a flurry of colour and spraypaint.

Sponsored by Grolsch and featuring talented artists such as Inkie, SPZero76, John D’oh, Fanakapan, Snub, Zabou, Cheba, My Dog Sighs, Masai, 3Dom, Angus, Ant Carver and my long-time favourite, Dan Kitchener (DANK), it really was an amazing sight to see walking around Digbeth as all the new pieces evolved before your eyes.

And as normally comes with a huge event like this, the slaphappy’s, paste-ups and taggers were also out in full force, with Free Art also dotted about all over the area for art lovers to find. I myself picked up a piece by Jay Sharples, and a piece by Rebel Grey too.

But it was the headline piece, a collaboration by Inkie, Amara Por Dios and Flesh that truly wrapped the whole festival up:

  1. just bloody wonderful – the best bit…some of the artists look almost as old as me. Some really great pictures of the works in progress, and great links too. Thanks for posting. Roll on Upfest.

    1. Glad you like Mr Scooj, and thanks for the constructive criticism, I really appreciate it. Links take ages to put in but I feel they’re important- in case any readers want to check out the artists!

Lots of artists are older; I find nobody is ever what or who I expect! But it’s great. People of all different ages and experience coming together for their love of art- nothing better 🙂

Upfest is going to be amazing!

Also I have been telling a few artists about your blog as I go along – yours is so much more comprehensive with regards to Bristol street art! I love reading your posts.

      1. Thanks. I start a new job for six months in a couple of weeks. I’ll be spending 2 days a week in London – I’m hoping to get out to Shoreditch and Camden Town etc. Posts will be less frequent, but will include London as well as Bristol.
